About the Department

The UWP is part of the University's strategic planning efforts to enhance academic excellence at GW, and is designed to promote scholarship and critical thinking in all schools and undergraduate degree programs. The Program is made up of three divisions, including: First-Year Writing (UW1020), Writing in the Disciplines (WID), and The Writing Center. The writing curriculum is a University-wide requirement for all undergraduates and consists of UW20 (a 4 credit freshman writing seminar) and two WIDs (sophomore/junior-level writing intensive courses). First-Year Writing courses are all offered through UWP, while WID courses are offered by departments throughout the University, and the faculty who teach them are members of the departments throughout the university.
